You know, I'm not sure how Dron would react to an entire school of mermaids ganging up on him. Most likely, he wouldn't be annoyed or pleased; he'd just inform them that their attempts were flawed and then critique their technique.

As for the quote . . . (Laugh!) Which episode is that from? I love Q.

This scene with Dron telling students that half of what he'll say is lies is highly amusing, but to me it also brings back painful memories.

I had 2 teachers who did their best to flunk students. They would say, "Study this chapter but not the other for the exam." and then guess what, most of the exam would be on the chpater they told us not to study!

Students complained to administration, but these teachers were old timers and well protected, plus they claimed that a student should know all seen in class. At least Dron gives fair warning.

"Thanks a lot, Dron! No really! I'm just thrilled that you've turned half the student body against me! In fact, I'm so happy that I'm going to tell X and Daria you want a present!"

On another note, is "Yay! I get to fight with the teacher!" a boy or a girl? Can't quite tell, even though I've noticed that at least royal woman of the land are *hem hem* endowed. Forget I ever said that...

Ugh, those sound like awful teachers, Vick330! No, Dron's not mean like that. He plays tricks to provoke people into learning, not because he wants to fail them. Going out of your way to trick your students into failing is just unpardonable. Booo to those teachers!

It's a guy, Masterweaver. I know it's really hard to tell sometimes with my art style (grumbles), but there's one really simple rule of thumb: there are no flat-chested girls in my comic strip. If someone's flat-chested, it's either a guy or a really glaring art error on my part. (And those don't happen frequently anymore. Razz) There are different chest sizes among the girls, but the difference is probably subtle enough (and my art still not consistent enough) that it may not be easy to tell.

I do apologize that my art style makes it hard to tell what gender a character is sometimes. I know that's inconvenient! Even if it's not untrue to real life -- growing up in Hong Kong, I remember finding it bizarre that most teenagers had delicate features, short hair, flat chests, and wore T-shirts and jeans. At least you could figure out their genders if they were wearing school uniform! (Laugh.)

By the way, you've probably noticed there are a lot more guys with long hair hanging around Aylia's country than modern-day America. This is partly because I love long hair on either gender, partly because I've gotten sick of boys' character designs always looking boring (or, worse, indistinguishably similar), and partly because it seemed a natural fit for the culture Aylia had come from.

I usually try to specify a character's gender if I think it might be confusing and the character's at all important. Especially if the character is a long-haired male. (Take Gundurun, the mermaid deranger. He's the only character in the strip whose hair is longer than Aylia's!) I try not to obsess too much over naming or introducing characters in a crowd, however. If they turn out important later, I can always specify details later. In the meantime, most people wouldn't care!

to be fair, they might be really bad at expressing "I taught Chapter 12 in class, so reading it isn't as important, and you need to read chapter 13, which will not taught in class, but both chapters 12 AND 13 will appear on the test"

That's true. Poor teaching doesn't necessarily imply malice. Though I've had some quite un-favorite teachers who were both in the past!

Little does everybody know that as a young dragonling, Dron was orphaned and taken in by Mermaids!

Or not. He's eight hundred something, he could have lied to me. Eh, I still think he's okay with the waterfolk.

He must have lied to you about his age, at least -- he's nine hundred and fifty-three!
